Frequently Asked Questions
1. Question: What is iLearn?
Answer: iLearn Schools (formerly North Jersey Arts and Science Charter Schools) is a non-profit Charter Management Organization (CMO) that provides specialized educational and management services, including operational and administrative supports, for schools.
2. Question: What is the role of iLearn in our school?
Answer: A school management company is retained by the governing body of a school (usually a board of trustees). In the current NJASCS schools, iLearn will be responsible for developing and implementing school curricula, managing human resources, handling regulatory reporting requirements, overseeing facilities and special programs, completing renewal and expansion applications, directing communication and public relations, managing enrollment, implementing information technology (IT), coordinating grants, and carrying out policies adopted by the board.
3. Question: Who is the head of iLearn and how is the company’s management structured?
Answer: Mr. Nihat Guvercin is the Chief Executive Officer of iLearn. The company’s management team also consists of the Chief Finance Officer, Chief Operations Officer, Chief Academic Officer, Chief Innovation Officer, and Chief Growth Officer. Mr. Guvercin has been successfully leading NJASCS since 2008, and as such, he and many of his senior administrators and academic professionals will continue to be involved in the day-to-day operations of the schools.
4. Question: North Jersey Arts & Science Charter Schools began as local, community-run charter schools. Why have these schools decided to implement this new management structure?
Answer: NJASCS schools have decided to make this change in management structure because of the added professional resources that will be provided by working with a CMO. Prior to this restructuring, Bergen, Passaic, and Paterson Arts and Science Charter Schools - three separate school districts - were formerly operating together under a cost-sharing agreement entitled NJASCS.
5. Question: Is our school’s name going to change to iLearn?
Answer: No, current district school names will remain the same.
6. Question: My child is a student in one of the NJASCS schools. What does this change in management structure mean for my child’s education?
Answer: While we will continue the NJASCS tradition of making regular improvements to our curriculum, to the technology available in our classrooms and to the programs and services available to our students, your students educational experience will be virtually unchanged. iLearn schools in New Jersey will continue to operate as tuition-free, public charter schools.
