RE: Clowns and our schools
October 4, 2016
Across the Nation, clown sightings and social media comments have been increasing. Several weeks ago, a person posted a Facebook message threatening a school in South Carolina. Like any threat towards a school, it was taken seriously and investigated. However, many people have a fear of clowns, it is called coulrophobia. This fear, and the ensuing media craze, has perpetuated copycat threats and many alleged clown sightings.
Let me be clear- our schools are safe and are on alert both to any clowns (in costume or otherwise) who may approach our schools or students, as well as any social media messages. We take every incident very seriously and this one is no different. if you or your child see anything that makes you uncomfortable, please immediately tell security or a staff member. If you believe a threat is imminent, please call 9-1-1.
Each of our schools practice for many eventualities, shelter-in-place, lockdown, bomb threats, medical emergencies, and of course fire. We are well prepared to address any issue that comes our way and with security members who are all prior law enforcement or military, we are accustomed to dealing with emergencies.
As always, your support and participation in ensuring a safe and secure educational environment is critical to our success. If you see (or hear) anything, SAY something!! Of course, I am always available to speak to you on specific issues as I communicate often with your school director and the security team to keep our schools as safe as possible.
We thank you for being part of the iLearn family of schools and look forward to continued success for every student.
