Bergen Arts & Science Charter School

Bergen Buzz – March

Dear Families,

Bergen Elementary is buzzing with exciting
events. With the learning and playing in bloom, this is one of our favorite
times of year! With
warmer weather (hopefully coming soon) we are working hard to keep everyone
focused on learning and doing his or her best. Please remember to stay in
communication with your child’s teacher regarding projects and homework
assignments. Administrators and teachers everywhere
recognize the important contributions parents make toward a child’s success in
school.  There is no question about it – success at school begins at
home. One of the most important components of a good school is the
partnership between the school and parents who work together for the best
interest of children.  The close partnership between home and school is
one of the exceptional strengths at Bergen Arts & Science Charter
Elementary School. With your continued support our students will shine
in the classrooms and will be fully prepared for the next level!

A large vocabulary can turn
your child into a better reader and writer. When you and your child go places,
point out words that people use. Maybe a waiter describes an entrée or the dentist talks about molars. Encourage your child to figure
out what the words mean by the way they’re used. Also try to have your child
add adjectives and verbs to his or her vocabulary. Sports and games offer
opportunities to sue action words. Let your child hear you comment on the
softball that soars or the runner who
sprints. When he or she sends thank
you notes or greeting cards, suggest they use descriptive words.

Just a friendly reminder to speak to
your children about internet safety, and the kinds of choices children wish to
make regarding videos and virtual games. This issue reminds us that monitoring
internet activity, and limiting screen time are part of the challenging
parenting landscape in the digital age. Ms. Arena, our School Instructional
Technology Coordinator, found a resource
from the National Online Safety council detailing the recent “Momo”
trend that, according to some news reports, have been seen on YouTube and YouTube
kids. They explain what it is and how to talk with your child about online
safety. You can visit their site at Then click on resources, platform guides,
scroll down and you will see MOMO parent’s guide.

If your child is going to be
sick from school please contact the main office to advise by 9am. You can call
(862) 247-8510 or email [email protected] or [email protected]

thank you for your cooperation and assistance.
